New Delhi: Australian cricketer David Warner, who surprisingly went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, has decided to try his luck in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft scheduled for January 11. This will be Warner's first appearance in the PSL draft, as he had turned down an offer to join the league back in 2019 after facing a ban in the previous season. After being snubbed in the IPL auction, where he had a base price of Rs 2 crore, Warner is looking to make a mark in the PSL and potentially showcase his skills in a new cricketing environment. This move comes at a time when most top players will be busy with the IPL, providing Warner with a unique opportunity to make an impact in the PSL. It will be interesting to see which team picks up the talented batsman in the upcoming draft.
Warner began his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) in 2009, playing with them until 2013. In 2014, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who named him captain in 2015. Under his leadership, SRH won their first IPL title in 2016.
Warner’s time with SRH came to an unpleasant end when he was stripped of the captaincy and excluded from the playing XI during IPL 2021. He later joined Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 mega-auction, where he spent three years. In IPL 2023, he took on the role of captain for the team.
It appears that Warner’s IPL career has come to an end, and he could become a consistent presence in the PSL moving forward. At present, he is playing for Sydney Thunder in the 2024/25 Big Bash League season.
